Flash Flash Flash Flash Flash Flash Flash Flash Flash

No, that's not a description of me. Not supposed to be, anyway.

But it is a description of what I was subjected to this evening!

I was being flashed at from my left and from my right at the same time.

That's the sort of thing local newspaper photographers do, I now know.

So we'll see... but I am expecting to appear somewhat startled in my local paper soon.

Oh, and I think yet another trade will probably be worked out very soon - maybe even soon enough to be included in the newspaper piece! We'll see...

Happy Earth Day To You

I've had a few interesting offers and indications of interest come in the last few days - a holiday in the wilderness in Canada anyone? - I think we might be trading again soon.

And... my local paper in Preston want to run a story. That could happen this week.

Watch this space. Or maybe read it once in a while - I'm sure just watching it is no fun.

Tommy Cooper Rex Spotted In Canada!

And here's the proof!

Tommy Cooper Rex In Canada.. Not!

He must have escaped and swam or paddled across the Atlantic from Ireland, or something - right?

Wrong.

Because this is definitely not Tommy Cooper Rex, but this is, I think I can safely say, a close relative.

In case you need reminding, T C Rex is indeed different...

T C Rex

My thanks go to a curious John in Mississauga, Ontario, for sending me the pic. It is unknown who made John's metal T Rex, but for sure it was not Sean, the maker of Tommy Cooper Rex.

I apologise to all Canadians for causing any alarm with the beginning of this post. I know I should be more careful.

Well Spotted Deb In South Dakota

Deb wrote to me asking when I traded Speedy the llama, because he didn't even get a mention in the last post.

Truth is I haven't traded Speedy, so please accept my apologies for the omission.

The only defence I can offer is that Speedy is not really, arguably, currently a trading nothing item. Because I do not currently own him.

I think I handled that very well.

Case closed.

Spot The Missing trading nothing Item...

trading nothing Items Group Photo

Of course you can't spot it, because it is missing. Well done if you spotted that.

The missing item is the Lynda Cookson painting "It Happened Centre Stage". I left it in Ireland because it is too big to take on a plane as hand luggage, and I just didn't want to take a risk letting it go in the hold. So I am looking to trade that particular item in Ireland...

You may also have spotted the Lynda Cookson painting "Lilac Buds" is now framed - and doesn't it look the finished article now?

Many thanks to Lynda for posting me the frame "after the event".

I took the painting and frame along to some picture framing people yesterday. They worked their magic in just a few minutes - here is the transformation...

Lilac Buds before Lilac Buds after

A big thank you to The Picture House in Preston for doing that for trading nothing, and, in the spirit of trading nothing, without charge.

And a special mention for the courageous lady-who-laughs-a-lot who served me, who for all I know risked losing practically everything by taking the executive decision not to charge me.

If you are in the Preston area and need any picture framing done, or if mirrors or picture prints are your thing... why not call them on 01772 760718, or email hs@pichouse04.fsnet.co.uk

The Next Trade...

...is not lined up yet!

But I am hopeful the wait won't be too long. There are all sorts of possibilities out there.

A lot of people tell me they want to do a trade, but can't think what to give me!

Hard to explain what I would accept exactly. But it is not simply a question of what will fetch the most on eBay, that's for sure.

If you happen to be stuck for ideas...

Something that could make a great gift, for whatever reason, could make a great trade!

Could even be a contract or promise of some sort... or something especially made for trading nothing... or free rent somewhere... or something just very unusual...

As always, all offers are welcome - please keep sending them this way :o)

Maybe even try to beat these past tempting offers...

  • "One kilo of organic home-grown smoked garlic"
  • "6 dozen country fresh eggs"
  • "some bongos"
  • "a blue ford escort"
  • "amazing homemade olive bread"
  • "the best socks you've ever had"
  • "the most impractical, heavy and downright indestructable piece of furniture in history"

Go on, I dare you - beat those!

Another Week Another Win!

I "won" a "book" last Friday.

I say a "book" rather than a book because it hasn't been printed yet.

As it happens I don't read books. Ask anyone. But I was intending to read this "book", so this was a good "win".

And I say a "win" because I'm not sure responding to an email quickly counts as a win.

So for responding to an email quickly, I was awarded with the promise of a soon-to-be-published book being sent to me in the next few months. Or something.

I am almost tempted to start this blog entry again. It seems to have gone quite badly so far.

The "book", by Kyle MacDonald, will have the title... "one red paperclip: Or How an Ordinary Man Achieved his Dream With the Help of a Simple Office Supply."

This story wouldn't be here without that story. I think it will be a good read, so I will read it. And I might even review it!

Right, I'm off to a book shop to see if they sell "Reviewing Books For Dummies".
