Well, just a few minutes after this photo was taken I happened to be looking at the twitter public timeline and noticed quite a few tweets talking about a plane down in the Hudson, all with the same link: http://twitpic.com/135xa
I clicked on the link, but just got an Error message. In fact, so many people wanted to see this twitpic at the same time the twitpic website crashed. But half an hour later I tried again, and saw what amounts to one of the most significant single pieces of citizen journalism the world has ever seen.
Janis effectively beat all the major news organisations to bringing this major story to the world.
I think he also beat Steve Martin who was otherwise busy...
A few weeks later I approached Janis through twitter and asked if he'd like to trade me a few photos he took with the same iPhone he took his "Miracle on the Hudson" photo, and Janis responded positively.
We entered into a period of tough negotiations which went on for months and months and months. We made counter offer after counter offer, and took timeout after timeout. I had coffee after coffee I recall.
In the end we agreed to accept our initial offers, so we had a deal!
From me, Janis received the bottle of chianti I got in Amsterdam, and from Janis I received 5 photos he took with his iPhone.
Janis even recorded the completion of this trade...
... and he also sent me this, which is now the official Trade 35 photo...
These are the five images Janis sent me for the trade...
All very cool snaps I'm sure you'll agree!
I just need to do something with them now, we're working on it, all I can say for now is watch this space!
There's even a small world type twist with this trade. Trade 14 Jody Gnant, who was present when I got the chianti in Trade 19, is US Airways Girl on twitter, and I remember she was pretty busy fielding and answering questions for a good while after the accident.
So, I would say "what have you got to trade?" for my new trading nothing items, but they're not ready yet.
Thanks for all that Janis! I'll say that instead.
So for now... you can check out my current offerings below, and feel free to make me an offer of any number of your things for any number of mine. (Or, if you prefer, give me a shout).
I'm always interested in offers of anything, and I really do mean anything...
